General tips for the model builder. Translated by Erik Peul
Sharpening twinge chisels on the amaril stone.
Suitable are the white and green amaril stone.
The last one needs to be greased with candle wax first, in order to decrease the chance of burning the chisel.
The grains on the green stone last twice as long and the chisel will be sharpened more nicely
Drilling holes in thin sheet metal
Drilling large holes in thin sheet metal is a hard thing to do since the drill might start chewing large pieces of steel.
A practical solution for this, is to clamp the sheet metal between two pieces of wood and drill al the way through the wood.
Drilling this way, produces nice round holes and prevents sharp edges.
It's also easier to mark the holes on wood in comparison to steel
Tips from Mas Haverhoek
Have you ever used a small sawing machine at home?
In that case the following tip from Mas Haverhoek might come in handy.
To ensure you cut pieces of wood with the same thickness over and over again, use a piece of square material and use it as a spacer between the guider and the sawing blade.
Another tip from Mas:
Sharpen the fixed claw of the vernier calipers so it can be used to mark your measuring in the metal.
